Centenary Gala in Aberystwyth
Subject: TWIN GALA - SEPTEMBER - ABERYSTWYTH
Dear Nigel
Really sorry for not getting back to you sooner, however I have given this gala a lot of thought and spoken to many people regarding the feasibility of such an event.
It would appear that we didn't really think this proposal through fully, and hadn't considered the huge changes that have taken place since the last successful trip to Aberystwth some 20 years ago. As we have discussed the changes that have come about are quite rightly for the safety and protection of our children. Unfortunately the impact of this is it makes trips such as this too difficult to organise safely given the resources we have.
As you know we have considered a 'half way' meeting point for this and I have explored this also. However, given the distances involved, the committee have unanimously agreed that it would be best to cancel this event.
I am really sorry for the messing around.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you most sincerely for your help and support in the venture.
Regards
Maureen Wain
Merseyside & District Junior Swimming League Division 2.
The penultimate gala in Division 2 took place on Sunday 6th April 2008
at Woolston Swimming Pool home of Warriors of Warrington. We finished a
very close 2nd to Warrington and unofficially lead the Division by 12
points going into the final gala. I say unofficially as only the first
two gala's have been ratified by the League.
We won 19 of the 50 events, came second in 14, third in 9 and fourth in
8.
Highlights of the gala:
Georgina Evans making her comeback after being out the pool for about 8
weeks as a result of a severe ear infection.
Rebecca Donga swimming up an age group and winning the 14/15 year old
50m Butterfly.
Vadims Pastuhovs keeping up his 100% record in the Open age group 50m
Butterfly.
Jenny Whitely suffering with tonsilitis winning the Open age 100m
Backstroke.
Carl Williams, Kevin Jones and Hannah Wain making the effort to get to
the gala after competing in a Triathlon in Lancaster all day and
producing winning swims in their respective events.
Unofficial Result of Gala.
1st Warriors of Warrington 168pts
2nd Garston 165pts
3rd Bootle & North Liverpool 129pts
4th Bridgefield 85pts.
Unofficial Division 2 Table after 4 Gala's.
1st Garston 670pts
2nd Warriors of Warrington 658pts
3rd Bootle & North Liverpool 507pts
4th Bridgefield 377pts.
With only one team being promoted to Division One I don't need to tell
you how important it is that if selected to swim you make every effort
to do so. It is many years since Garston S C has been in Division One so
lets make our Centenary Year a year to remember!!!!!!
Details of Final Gala:
Sunday 27th April 2008 at Crosby Leisure Centre, Mariners Road, Crosby.
Warm up 1pm for a 1.30pm start.
